The SEC Championship in women’s college golf plays the final day of match play today.

After a weekend of play in the SEC Championship the top eight teams have advanced to play for the title this week. The event switched to match play on Monday for the next two rounds of golf for the teams with South Carolina holding a three-stroke lead over the rest of the field at three under par. Joining the Gamecocks this week are Auburn at even par, Texas A&M, Mississippi State, Kentucky, Arkansas, Georgia and LSU all still in the mix as the tournament switches over to match play. One championship has already been crowned with the (Mississippi State) Bulldogs Julia Lopez Ramirez taking home the individual championship.

Lopez Ramirez closed out the final round with a five under 65 to lock up the individual championship in the SEC this season. The win is a second straight for Lopez Ramirez who also won the individual championship in the SEC last season.

The Monday quarterfinal matches that are still in play feature the Gamecocks vs. (LSU) Tigers, (Mississippi State) Bulldogs vs. Wildcats, (Auburn) Tigers vs. (Georgia) Bulldogs and the Aggies vs. Razorbacks. Each winning team on Monday advances to play in the semifinals today for the SEC Championship today.

In the last two tournaments tigers have won the SEC Championship with the (Auburn) Tigers winning in 2021 and the LSU (Tigers) still alive as the defending champions in this tournament. The Washington Nationals will head on the road to start this week in the first game of a three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California. This will be the first game between these two teams this season. The Dodgers come into this game with an 11-7 record this season despite losing three of the team’s last five games. That includes losing a series against the San Diego Padres at home in their last series. Mookie Betts continues to be hot with six home runs and 16 RBIs this season while batting .357. This season New York has been the most consistent team all season. They close out the regular season against the Ottawa Senators (36-40-4) who have already been eliminated from the playoffs. Ottawa can play spoiler, making an impact on the playoff seeding with an upset today or forcing a tie. In the two games this season the teams have split them. Ottawa dominated the first matchup back in December, followed by an even more dominant win by New York in the more recent match in January.

Ottawa jumped out early in the first match scoring two quick first period goals and immediately countered every goal from New York. In the end they came away with a 6-2 win with four different players lighting the lamp led by two goals a piece from Brady Tkachuk and Vladimir Tarasenko.

Then in the second game New York was out for revenge dominating 7-2 after falling behind 2-0 early in the match. After giving up those first two goals New York was a supernova of offense scoring five goals in the second period and then two more to add salt to the wound. The San Diego Padres will head on the road to begin this week in the first game of a three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field in Wisconsin. This will be the first game between these two teams this season. The Brewers enter this game with a 10-4 record overall sitting on top of the National League Central division. They won two of three games against the Cincinnati Reds and the Baltimore Orioles in the team’s last two series. William Contreras has been one of the best bats on the team this year with four home runs and 15 RBIs while batting .375 this season. The Padres are even at 9-9 this season winning two of three games against the Los Angeles Dodgers on the road in their last series with a total run differential of 16-15 in their favor. Fernando Tatis Jr will be the bat to watch out for with five home runs and 12 RBIs this season.

This will be the first game of this series but the fifth game of the season series in which the Royals lead the series 4-0. They enter this game with a 10-6 overall. They swept Chicago followed by the Houston Astros winning seven straight games before losing two of three games to the New York Mets. Salvador Perez has been the bat to look out for. He is batting .339 with four home runs and 15 RBIs, all three are leading the team. The White Sox have won just two games this season with 13 losses. They were swept by Kansas City and won one of three games against the Cleveland Guardians before getting swept by the Cincinnati Reds. Gavin Sheets has had the best offensive production with two home runs and eight RBIs with a batting average of 28.6%.

The New York Islanders try to hold onto their divisional playoff spot when they visit the New Jersey Devils on Monday.

In the crowded race for the final playoff spot in the NHL’s Eastern Conference, the New York Islanders (37-27-16) sit in the most favorable spot of any of the teams in contention heading into play on Monday. The Islanders currently hold the last of three playoff spots in the Metropolitan Division, but are just three points up on the Washington Capitals and Philadelphia Flyers. The Detroit Red Wings are also three points back, and could become a factor if the Islanders fall into a Wild Card spot. This season the teams have split their two games so far with Washington winning the first match and Boston winning in a shootout just two weeks ago. Winning this game will give either Boston or Washington the season series win and also help in their playoff pushes.

In that first game Washington came out with a defensive focus early that led to shutting out Boston all game. They got the scoring started in the second period and then added two more goals in the third period to secure one of the biggest wins of the season for Washington.

The Pittsburgh Penguins try to keep their playoff hopes alive when they host the Nashville Predators on Monday.

The NHL’s Eastern Conference Wild Card race enters its final week, and it’s a tight one. There are four teams fighting for the final remaining Wild Card spot, with three of those teams also chasing a fifth for the final divisional spot in the Metropolitan Division. One of those teams is the Pittsburgh Penguins (37-31-12), who entering play on Monday are one point behind the Washington Capitals, Philadelphia Flyers, and Detroit Red Wings in the Wild Card race and four points behind the New York Islanders – who they’ll play in the regular season finale – for the final Metropolitan Division spot. However, that game will only hold playoff implications if the Penguins can beat the Nashville Predators (47-29-5) first on Monday at PPG Paints Arena.

Right-hander Nick Nelson was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Saturday, opening the roster spot. The 23-year-old Kerkering, taken in the fifth round in 2022 by Philadelphia, worked a scoreless seventh inning in Sunday’s loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Colorado right fielder Kris Bryant didn’t play Sunday, a day after exiting a game with a sore back and right ribs after a collision with the outfield wall.

On Monday, the Detroit Tigers (9-6) begin their second four-game series of an eight-game homestand, when they host the Texas Rangers (8-8) at Comerica Park. Over the weekend they hosted the Minnesota Twins, and split the four-game set. After Thursday’s season opener was rained out the Tigers won the new ‘opener’ 8-2. Minnesota swept Saturday’s doubleheader, with one game going to 12 innings. Detroit struck back on Sunday though, winning the series finale 4-3. Right fielder Mark Canha hit a key two-RBI double late in that game to help get the Tigers over the top.
