The Professional Women’s Hockey League returns from its world championships break with Minnesota visiting Montreal on Thursday night.

After three weeks off for the women’s world championships, the Professional Women’s Hockey League returns to action for the home stretch on Thursday night. Second place Minnesota (12-4-3, 35 points) visits third place Montreal (10-5-4, 31 points) at Verdun Auditorium with each team having five games left on its schedule. Minnesota entered the break red hot with five straight victories, picking up 13 points in that span. Montreal, on the other hand, dropped its last four games before the world championships, earning just one point over that stretch to slide down the standings.

The Minnesota attack begins with forward Grace Zumwinkle, whose nine goals rank second in the league, while her 16 points are fifth-best. Kendall Coyne Schofield lit the lamp six times so far this season and has 14 points. In net, Nicole Hensley is 7-3-1 in 11 games with a .933 save percentage and 1.79 goals-against average.

Montreal’s Marie-Philip Poulin returns from the world championships tied for third in the PWHL with eight goals and 17 points. Laura Stacey has seven markers and Maureen Murphy checks in with 13 points. While Elaine Chuli leads the PWHL with a .956 save percentage and 1.41 GAA, Ann-Renée Desbiens gets the bulk of the time in net with a .919 save percentage and 2.29 GAA.

Thursday marks the last of five meetings between Minnesota and Montreal, with the teams splitting the first four. Minnesota got a 3-0 win on home ice on Jan. 6, along with its 3-2 shootout victory on March 24, also at home. Montreal got a 2-1 win in St. Paul on Jan. 24 and a 2-1 victory at home on Feb. 18.
