In the two games this season the teams have split them. Ottawa dominated the first matchup back in December, followed by an even more dominant win by New York in the more recent match in January.

The NHL’s Eastern Conference Wild Card race enters its final week, and it’s a tight one. The Mets are continuing a six-game homestand. They hosted the Kansas City Royals over the weekend in interleague play and took two of three games. On Sunday they clinched the series win in the rubber match, beating the Royals 2-1.

Lefty Martin Perez will start this game for the Pirates. He’s been great through his first three starts, with a 1-0 record and 1.89 ERA in 19 innings. On the other side, righty Adrian Houser will get the ball for the Mets.

It’s an American League East showdown on Monday when the New York Yankees open a series north of the border against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Early on in the season, the New York Yankees (12-4) have gotten out to a quick lead in the American League East. They’ll have a chance to pad that lead this week as they head north for a three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays (8-8) beginning on Monday. This will already be the second series of the year between the Yankees and Blue Jays. They previously met for three games in New York two weekends ago. Toronto won the first game of that series with a 3-0 shutout, but then the Yankees won the next two games by scores of 9-8 and 8-3.

The Philadelphia Phillies (8-8) opened their 10-game homestand with a four-game split and welcome the struggling Colorado Rockies (4-12) to Citizens Bank Park on Monday night to open a three-game set. The Phillies made a roster move on Sunday, activating right-hander Orion Kerkering from the 15-day disabled list to fill a spot in the bullpen. Right-hander Nick Nelson was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Saturday, opening the roster spot. The 23-year-old Kerkering, taken in the fifth round in 2022 by Philadelphia, worked a scoreless seventh inning in Sunday’s loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Colorado right fielder Kris Bryant didn’t play Sunday, a day after exiting a game with a sore back and right ribs after a collision with the outfield wall.

The Detroit Tigers try to continue their strong start against the defending World Series Champion Texas Rangers.

On Monday, the Detroit Tigers (9-6) begin their second four-game series of an eight-game homestand, when they host the Texas Rangers (8-8) at Comerica Park. Over the weekend they hosted the Minnesota Twins, and split the four-game set. After Thursday’s season opener was rained out the Tigers won the new ‘opener’ 8-2. Minnesota swept Saturday’s doubleheader, with one game going to 12 innings. Detroit struck back on Sunday though, winning the series finale 4-3. Right fielder Mark Canha hit a key two-RBI double late in that game to help get the Tigers over the top.

This is the second series in a row for the Giants in the state of Florida, as part of a six-game road trip. They spent the weekend at Tropicana Field taking on the Tampa Bay Rays in an interleague matchup. San Francisco won one of the three games but it was a big one – an 11-2 win on Saturday. Second baseman Thairo Estrada homered twice for the Giants in that game.

It’s been a really good week and a half for the Tampa Bay Rays (9-7). Kevin Cash’s team was on a run last week, and has won four of its last five games and six of its last eight. Over the weekend, the Rays hosted the San Francisco Giants and won two of the three games to begin a seven-game homestand. That included a 9-4 win last time out on Sunday that saw right fielder Ahmed Rosario go 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Next up for the Rays is a four-game series against the Los Angeles Angels (7-8) starting on Monday night.
