How to Watch the 2020 National Dog Show

For decades, once Snoopy and SpongeBob were finished floating through the streets of Manhattan in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, there was little else to watch besides football. Well that was until NBC started airing the National Dog Show directly after the parade nearly twenty years ago. So this way you get all of the competitiveness with way more adorable participants.

Even during a world-wide pandemic, this schedule has remained the same. That doesn't mean there won't be changes to this year's competition. Much like many sports returning this year, there will be no spectators and the judges will all be wearing masks. Possibly the most significant change is that there will only be 600 dogs competing. That may sound like a lot but there is usually almost 2,000 dogs in a normal year. Although we won't see such a wide variety of dogs, there will still be 208 recognized breeds. Either way, we're just happy that we can keep some of our Thanksgiving traditions.

What TV Channel is the 2020 National Dog Show on?

The 2020 National Dog Show will be shown on NBC directly after the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade at 12:00 p.m. in all time zones. You can live stream the National Dog Show on fuboTV.

Maybe the most exciting change to the show this year is that the competition will recognize several new breeds.  First is the Barbet which is a part of the Sporting Group. This dog has really curly hair and has a chill temperament. They are good swimmer and hunters as well.

The second new breed Dogo Argentino with a short, often white coat. That isn't Spanish for Argentinian dog (in case you're wondering, perro or perra is) but these are hunting dogs originating from Argentina. Guess the hunting theme for these new breeds goes well on Turkey Day.

Finally is the Belgian Laekenois. Apparently that is pronounced “Lak-in-wah” Regardless of how you say it, this dog kind of looks like a sheep dog if they didn't comb their hair in the morning. These dogs are very smart and again much like the sheepdog were originally bred to watch over livestock.

Also, how great was the movie Best in Show? Maybe we'll just have to make a marathon of dog competitions for quarantine Thanksgiving. Beats rushing for sales after a Thanksgiving food coma anyway.
