Premier League outfit West Ham United returns to The Soccer Tournament lineup against Villarreal on Wednesday.

The Soccer Tournament returns to North Carolina on Wednesday and will once again feature Premier League representation, as West Ham United makes a comeback appearance against La Liga’s Villarreal in Group G. The Hammers previously competed in the seven-a-side competition’s inaugural edition back in 2023, but did not return for the 2024 contest after failing to make it past the pool phase. Spanish side Villarreal made its own debut last year as it sought to clinch the $1 million grand prize in Cary and did make it to the knockout phases, only to fall against eventual semifinalist the Hoosier Army.

The Soccer Tournament has proved incredibly popular despite still being in its infancy, with the mix of retired players, celebrities and influencer squads proving a hit with fans.

That being said, the competitive spirit is still very much alive with those taking part, and West Ham in particular will be looking to make up for its only previous showing in North Carolina.

The new generation of soccer initiative has attracted a wealth of global superstars in recent years, with NBA icon and San Antonio Spur Chris Paul among those invested in the action.

West Ham legend Anton Ferdinand will return as player-coach of the Hammers squad this week, while other club alumni taking part include James Collins, Mauro Zarate and Ricardo Vaz Te.

The east London outfit will also be aided by actor Hero Fiennes Tiffin, known mostly for his roles in the “After” film series, as well as “The Woman King,” “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare,” and “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.”

Some of the more well-known names on Villarreal’s roster include former Manchester United and Italy striker, Giuseppe Rossi, iconic goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo and ex-Argentina international Mateo Musacchio.

Regional restrictions may apply.
