UC Santa Barbara will travel to Irvine, California, in the latter part of this week in men’s college basketball. On Thursday, they will face off in a battle of two Big West Conference teams against UC Irvine at the Brens Events Center. The UC Irvine Anteaters are 20-4 overall this season and are currently one of two 20-win teams in the conference. They are also 10-2 against teams in the Big West, tied with UC San Diego, who are also 20-4 overall this season. They hold a 1.5-game lead over UC Riverside and CSU Northridge.

On February 1st, they opened the month against UC Davis at home and came away with a seven-point win. Bent Leuchten led the team with 21 points, tying a game-high on 5-of-11 shooting and a team-high 13 rebounds and six assists. After seven days off, they took the court over the weekend against UC San Diego and lost by 18 points at home.
The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos are 16-8 overall this season. After finishing their non-conference schedule with an 8-3 overall record, they have since gone 8-5 against teams in the Big West Conference. They are tied with UC Davis and one game behind UC Riverside and CSU Northridge. They are also three-games up on Hawai’i.
They have won three games in the last week and a half in February. They beat Long Beach State by 31 at home, followed by Bakersfield on the road by six points, and last weekend at home against Hawai’i by four points. Stephan Swenson, the Stetson transfer, leads UCSB in scoring this season, averaging 13.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game as a senior.
