A top 10 matchup will take place on Saturday night as UCLA takes on Michigan State in women’s gymnastics action.

The No. 5 Michigan State Spartans will take a trip to the west coast this weekend for a Big Ten dual meet against the No. 6 UCLA Bruins at Pauley Pavilion. The Bruins are currently in third place in third place in the Big Ten standings with a conference record of 2-0 and an overall record of 5-2 so far this year. The team’s only two losses came in its opening weekend at the American Gold Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Classic, falling to Cal and Oregon State. Since then, the team has won five straight meets with the most recent being a 197.200-194.750 against Illinois last weekend. The Bruins won four out of five event titles in the win with Chae Campbell winning all-around (39.400), Jordan Chiles and Campbell tying in vault (9.925), Frida Esparza winning bars (9.925) and Chiles taking floor (9.950).

The fifth-ranked Spartans are sitting just above the Bruins in the Big Ten standings, also with a conference record of 2-0, but hold an overall record of 5-1. The team’s only loss of the season came against Florida three weeks ago at the Florida Quad, losing by a small margin in a 196.675-196.650 defeat. The team has shown strength the whole season, however, and picked up a big 196.800-195.750 win over No. 14 Ohioa State on the road last weekend. Senior Gabrielle Stephen won the all-around title with a 39.375 while the Spartans also claimed at least a share of every event title to propel them to a big win. Nikki Smith won vault with a 9.950, Sage Kellerman and Smith scored 9.85s to win bars, Stephen scored a 9.900 on beam to share the title with Courtney McCann of OSU and Skyla Schulte and Stephen shared the floor title, each with a 9.900.

Michigan State are the defending Big Ten champions while UCLA is in its first year as a member of the conference. The Bruins have won 20 Pac-12/Pac-10 titles between 1987-2024 and have seven NCAA championships to their name. The highly-anticipated meet will be the first ever gymnastics meet to air on FOX.
