Slovan Bratislava is still yet to claim a single point in the Champions League ahead of Wednesday’s visit to Atletico Madrid.

Atletico Madrid will stake its nine-game win streak as Slovan Bratislava visits the Riyadh Air Metropolitano on Wednesday hoping to pull off a gargantuan upset against Diego Simeone’s side. Los Rojiblancos are a tough side to visit at their worst, but Atletico has discovered a ruthless streak of late that the team will be in no mood to lose – especially against a team yet to get off the mark in Europe. The reigning champion of Slovakia could hardly hope to encounter Atleti in more difficult form than right now, with the club facing expulsion from the Champions League if it can’t get a win – and soon.

Only three teams come into Matchday 6 having still yet to earn a point in this season’s Champions League, and Slovan Bratislava require a giant-slaying of mythical proportions to end that drought in midweek.

Atleti scored three goals in the final 30 minutes of Sunday’s clash at home to Sevilla to rescue a 4-3 victory, with club legend Antoine Griezmann coming to the rescue with half of their haul:

The Frenchman is Atletico’s top scorer in La Liga with seven goals, but it’s summer signing Julian Alvarez who leads the club’s overall tally with 11 goals in all competitions.

The Argentinian will be hopeful of landing a starting spot against Slovan, who can no longer qualify directly to the round of 16 but could still reach that phase through the playoffs.

That being said, even that will be all but impossible without a result in Madrid, with the club’s two remaining Champions League fixtures against Bayern Munich and Stuttgart no easy tasks, either.

Long-term absentee Thomas Lemar is the only fitness concern for Wednesday’s host, while Marko Tolic will be suspended for Slovan Bratislava.

Regional restrictions may apply.
