Only Lille or Borussia Dortmund will reach the Champions League’s last eight following their clash on Wednesday.

The balance is finely poised as Borussia Dortmund travels to Lille on Wednesday for the second leg of their Champions League round-of-16 clash, having drawn 1-1 in Germany last week. And while the Black and Yellows have been frequent attendees to the quarterfinals over the past 15 years or so, reaching the last eight of Europe’s first-tier competition would represent a historic first for Lille. As if the battle lines weren’t already tight enough ahead of Wednesday’s second salvo at the Decathlon Arena, these two teams hopes to break from tradition after drawing each of their three meetings to date.

And a home-leg decider looks very promising for the Ligue 1 outfit after losing just three games in front of its own fans all season, winning 13 times and drawing on four occasions.

Not only that, but Lille is undefeated at home in Europe this term, earning memorable wins over Real Madrid (1-0) and Feyenoord (6-1) along the way, as well as drawing against Juventus.

On the other hand, Dortmund has looked incredibly shaky on the road and lost 10 of its 19 away fixtures this season, albeit saving some of its best road performances for Europe.

Dortmund took the lead through Karim Adeyemi in the first leg last week, only for Hakon Haraldsson to hit back and secure a potentially precious equalizer in the 68th minute.

Despite the away struggles this campaign, things have improved since Niko Kovac took over as manager in January, winning three of his road fixtures in charge thus far.

Host Lille has the more notable absences set to miss out, with attacker Edon Zhegrova on the injured list alongside defenders Samuel Umtiti and Tiago Santos.

Felix Nmecha and Daniel Svensson are the biggest names missing for Dortmund, while Carney Chukwuemeka – who’s with the club on loan from Chelsea – could miss out.
