Tottenham Hotspur stands on the verge of reaching the Europa League final when it travels to Bodo/Glimt on Thursday.

Despite a wretched season by all normal parameters, Tottenham Hotspur faces the possibility of clinching major European silverware this season but must first make its way past Bodo/Glimt on Thursday. Ange Postecoglou’s future in north London may well rest on whether Spurs lift Europe’s second-tier title, and they have one foot in the final after taking a 3-1 aggregate lead over Bodo in the first leg of this semi-final showdown. That means a draw is all that’s needed in Norway for Tottenham to reach a Europa League decider against either Manchester United or Athletic Bilbao, though even a narrow defeat might do.

Thursday’s clash will be far from straightforward for the visitors, however, considering Superlaget (The Super Team) have been a particularly handful at home and won their last five at Aspmyra Stadium (including penalty shootouts).

There’s also the fact Kjetil Knutsen’s side will be particularly motivated from the offset after such a convincing defeat in the away leg, which would have ended 3-0 if not for Urik Saltnes’ late consolation.

Brennan Johnson, Dominic Solanke and James Maddison were on the score sheet as Spurs strode to a 3-1 win over Bodo in the first leg:

It has since been confirmed that Maddison will play no further role for the team this season after suffering knee injury that will keep him sidelined for at least the next three weeks.

The Europa League has been a safe haven for Spurs amid the general doom and gloom of this campaign, which sees them sitting 16th in the Premier League as things stand.

Bodo, by comparison, sits fourth in Norway’s Eliteserien but has played as much as three games fewer than some of its peers placed above, owing to the club’s involvement in Europe.

Rumors suggest Postecoglou will leave Spurs in the summer, regardless of their Europa League fate, but the Australian will be desperate to ensure the club at least has its first European final since finishing as Champions League runners-up in 2019.

Regional restrictions may apply.
