Hungary managed to give a great account of itself when these two teams collided in the 2022-23 edition of the UEFA Nations League.

The Magyars went unbeaten in two meetings and even surprised Germany on its own soil to bag a first win in this fixture since 2004, but Julian Nagelsmann’s side have since won two on the trot in this rivalry.

Germany wrapped up the top spot in its group with time to spare after thrashing Bosnia & Herzegovina on Saturday, where Florian Wirtz and Kai Havertz were in particularly fine form.

Bayer Leverkusen linchpin Wirtz led the charge with two goals and one assist, while former club teammate Havertz was assisted by Wirtz before setting up two goals of his own.

Hungary, on the other hand, was crushed 4-0 by the Netherlands to extinguish any hope of placing in the top two, and staying in the top flight of the Nations League is the best the country can hope for.

The low-stakes nature of this meeting means both managers are likely to hold back certain assets and experiment to some degree.
