European champion Spain hopes to continue its unbeaten UEFA Nations League run at home to Serbia on Tuesday.

A little more than a month after holding the current king of Europe to a goalless draw, Serbia is out to seal another surprise result in the UEFA Nations League when it travels to Cordobaon Tuesday. The Euro 2024 champion was kept to a goalless stalemate when it visited Belgrade during the last international break, giving Spain more than enough cause to seal its redemption on home soil this week. However, the Serbs are also not without motivation to upset the applecart once more, with a place in the quarterfinals still not out of reach as it trails Denmark by only two points.

A 1-0 win over Denmark on Saturday was enough to keep Spain’s noses in front at the head of Group A4, with Martin Zubimendi providing the game’s decider.

However, a top-two finish isn’t looking as certain as some might have expected at this stage of the Nations League.

It’s only natural there should be some drop-off in production after celebrating a success as Luis de la Fuente’s men did this summer, once again cementing themselves as the best team on the continent.

Serbia, meanwhile, is developing some momentum in the competition after earning a first win of the campaign at home to Switzerland on the weekend, triumphing 2-0 to move away from the risk of relegation.

The team is far from safe just yet, however, and still occupies a relegation playoff spot, hoping to make the jump up to second and survive as part of Europe’s top tier.

Spain has struggled to fire in attack of late, but the defense has at least looked worth its mettle after conceding a joint-Nations League low of just one goal after three rounds of fixtures.
