Turkey heads to Lithuania with a chance to move to 2-0 in Group C1

UEFA Nations League Group C1 play continues Tuesday with the first-ever meeting in international competition between Turkey and Lithuania. The match in Vilnius pits two sides that opened oppositely. On Saturday, Turkey blasted the Faroe Islands at home by a 4-0 count. Lithuania lost at home 2-0 to Luxembourg.

The Turks led 1-0 at the break on a goal by Cengiz Ünder and made it 2-0 early in the second half when Halil Dervişoğlu found the back of the net. In the final 10 minutes, Turkey scored twice more with markers from Serdar Dursun and Merih Demiral. The home side dominated the match, with keeper Uğurcan Çakır not needing to make a save in the win.

Lithuania was on its heels much of the match against Luxembourg, which pushed the attack early and often. The Red Lions broke through in the final minute of the first half and added an insurance tally in the 78th minute.

Turkey was knocked out of World Cup qualifying in March, losing a 3-1 decision to Portugal in the playoff semifinal.
