Merab Dvalishvili’s latest UFC bantamweight title defense will receive the red carpet treatment with an appetizing prelim card on Saturday

UFC bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili will put his title on the line in a rematch against Petr Yan on Saturday, but first comes a preliminary card featuring three lightweight wars ahead of the main event. Georgian juggernaut Dvalishvili is undefeated in 14 fights and will headline with one of two title fights at the T-Mobile Arena, with Alexandre Pantoja set to defend his flyweight belt against Joshua Van. Before that, however, fans will be treated to four prelim battles with great promise, including the comeback of a UFC veteran who has been out for more than 18 months on the sidelines.

Saturday’s prelim card comes to a head as Grant Dawson takes on Manuel Torres at lightweight, with the former hoping to celebrate his fourth straight win after more than two years undefeated.

‘KGD’ sits on an impressive 23-2-1 record but has responded splendidly to his October 2023 knockout against King Green, while Torres is coming off a first-round finish over Drew Dober back in March.

In the build-up to Saturday’s slugfest, Dawson suggested his follower count is playing a heavy hand in why he isn’t receiving more opportunities against the best in the 155lb division:

Two other lightweight fixtures on the prelim card will see Nazim Sadykhov take on Fares Ziam, while Scotland’s Chris Duncan aims to celebrate a sixth win in seven when he takes on Terrance McKinney.

McKinney doesn’t do boring bouts and is still yet to see the judges’ scorecards in 11 Octagon outings, though 14-2 Duncan is no slouch with 10 finishes from 14 career wins to date.

Last but not least is a flyweight contest between Maycee Barber and Karine Silva, with the latter staging her return more than 18 months after health issues temporarily curtailed her career.

The pause came at the worst possible moment given Barber’s last win over Katlyn Cerminara in March 2024 was her sixth in succession, with question marks as to whether she’s the same talent today.
