Sunday’s UFL double-header starts off with a major matchup in the USFL Conference with second place and playoff positioning on the line between the Houston Roughnecks and Birmingham Stallions.

In the first of two games in the UFL on Sunday afternoon, the defending league champion Birmingham Stallions (4-2) host the Houston Roughnecks (3-3) at Protective Stadium. With four weeks to go, significant playoff seeding is on the line in this one with the teams ranking second and third respectively in the USFL Conference. Not only is Birmingham trying to hold off the Roughnecks for the second and final playoff spot in the USFL Conference, they’re also trying to keep pace with the first place Michigan Panthers. Michigan improved to 5-2 with a win over the Arlington Renegades on Saturday.

Not only is Houston trying to keep pace with Birmingham, but also cancel out the head-to-head tiebreaker. The Stallions won the first meeting of the year between these teams, two weeks ago. The Stallions won that game 23-16, scoring twice in the fourth quarter to pull away for the win. Both teams totaled over 300 yards of offense in that one.

Led by quarterback Matt Corral, the Stallions hit on multiple big plays in the passing game in that matchup. Wide receiver Deon Cain caught three passes for 69 yards and a score, while Davion Davis caught two passes for 62 yards and a touchdown.

Birmingham lost the week after beating Houston, but then blew out the San Antonio Brahmas in a 26-3 game last week. Houston has won two in a row since that loss to Birmingham, including hanging on for a 21-20 win last week against the Memphis Showboats.
