The Stallions’ title defense started on a sour note last week. Birmingham opened the season on the road against the DC Defenders and lost 18-11. Despite the loss Birmingham ran the ball well, picking up 122 yards on just 20 carries. That included quarterback Alex McGough rushing for 84 yards on eight carries.

Michigan was also on the road last week, and was able to start the season off with a win. The Panthers went into Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium and beat the Memphis Showboats 26-12. Quarterback Bryce Perkins had a very efficient game for the Panthers, completing 16 of his 19 passes for 163 yards with a touchdown to running back C.J. Marable and no interceptions. He also ran six times for 14 yards and another score.
