How to Watch Game 5: Vegas Golden Knights vs. Colorado Avalanche
The Vegas Golden Knights have completely changed the trajectory of this series. Can the Colorado Avalanche get back in it before it's too late? GETTY IMAGES

Now this is the series we were expecting. After a 7-1 blowout win by the Avalanche in Game 1, the tides have turned significantly aas this series is all tied up heading into Game 5. After being outplayed in Game 2 the Avs still found a way to win in overtime. The script was looking the same in Game 3 when once again the Golden Knights looked like the better and more aggressive team. But again Colorado held a 2-1 advantage in the third period and were seriously close to taking a commanding 3-0 series advantage. Then with just about five minutes left, the series completely changed.

Vegas scored two goals within a minute and have never looked back in the series since. After that game, Avs coach Jared Bednar ripped the team a new one and described their performance as a 'waste of time'. Let's just say the brutal analysis wasn't quite a motivating factor as the Avalanche were never really in Game 4 as Vegas won 5-1. Colorado couldn't ask for a better time to move this series home as they look to exorcise their recent second round demons. In Denver they are 4-0 in the playoffs and 22-4-2 in the regular season.

Last game withstanding, goaltending has not been the Avs problem in this series. In fact, goaltender Philipp Grubauer has been by far and away their first star. What Vegas has done so well in the last three games is slow down the best line in hockey nearly to a halt. The Avs first line didn't put up a point in regulation and was only bailed out by a brilliant Mikko Rantanen overtime winner. The line consisting of Rantanen, Gabriel Landeskog and Nathan MacKinnon have only scored two goals, with a man advantage noless, since they scored five in Game 1. If they can't muster anymore offensive firepower, you can almost pencil Vegas for the next round against the Canadiens already. Their biggest weapon is speed which has been all but eliminated lately. They'll need to get it back to shift the momentum in this series.

After almost being in an insurmountable hole, it now seems like Vegas can do no wrong. The craziest stat for the Golden Knights might be their shots on goal compared to the Avs since game one. In the last three games they've been outshooting their opponent 119-63. If they even remotely keep up that pace, they will win Game 5. Doesn't hurt that Jonathan Marchessault went insane and did a phenomenal trick with his hat. They keep eliminating the Avs in the neutral zone and if they keep it up, they'll make their semifinals in just their fourth year of existence.
