The Atlanta Dream (5-2) are set to face the Connecticut Sun (1-6) on Friday night at Mohegan Sun Arena for a Commissioner’s Cup matchup. The inaugural Commissioner’s Cup took place in 2021 and the Seattle Storm beat the Connecticut Sun to claim the title. The annual in-season competition is comprised of a 36-game schedule in which the top teams from each conference compete for $500k in the championship. Connecticut, under new head coach Rachid Meziane, is in a rebuilding phase after significant roster changes in the offseason and the team has not found a groove yet as the Sun sits at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings. Veteran Tina Charles is averaging 16.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. Aneesah Morrow, the 7th overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, was expected to play a key role this season, but so far, she is only averaging 3.2 points per game and 2.2 rebounds per game.

Atlanta enters the game riding a four-game win streak, including a recent 94-87 victory over the Seattle Storm, where Rhyne Howard led with 33 points. Allisha Gray has been a consistent contributor, as well, having finished the game with 28 points and is averaging 21.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game this season.

In the teams’ previous meeting on May 25, the Dream defeated the Sun 79-55. With Connecticut’s ongoing adjustments this season, the Dream are favored to secure another win, making it five in a row.
