Sophie Cunningham and the Indiana Fever go head-to-head with Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky in a highly anticipated rivalry game on Saturday night.

The Indiana Fever (3–4) and the Chicago Sky (2–4) square off on Saturday night at the United Center in Chicago, marking a pivotal WNBA Commissioner’s Cup matchup and a highly-anticipated battle between the teams after some fireworks in the season-opener a few weeks ago. The inaugural Commissioner’s Cup took place in 2021 and the Seattle Storm claimed the title. The annual in-season competition is comprised of a 36-game schedule in which the top teams from each conference compete for $500k in the championship.

This contest was originally highlighted as a must-watch game after the early-season clash between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese; however, with Clark out for her fourth consecutive game with a left quad strain, the game likely won’t show the same level of emotions. Despite her absence, the Fever are slight favorites, buoyed by a recent 85–76 victory over the Washington Mystics. Guard Kelsey Mitchell led the way with 24 points and forward Lexie Hull added another 14 points while also leading on the boards with six rebounds.

The Sky comes into the game with momentum, having secured back-to-back wins over the Dallas Wings, winning 97-92 and then 94-83. Angel Reese has been instrumental in this turnaround despite only scoring 20 points between the two games. Her scrappy defense has helped to shut down some of the strongest offensive players in the league, however, Chicago’s defense still remains a concern, as they rank near the bottom of the league in points allowed per game.

While the absence of Clark alters the dynamic, the game still features compelling storylines and emerging talents. Both teams aim to improve their standings in the Commissioner’s Cup, making this a critical early-season contest as they both try to get back on track in the league standings, as well. Adding to the intrigue, Fever head coach Stephanie White may be unavailable due to personal reasons. If she cannot attend, assistant coach Austin Kelly will assume head coaching duties for the midwestern clash. Tune in Saturday night for a bit of excitement as these two teams meet for the second time this season.
