Breanna Stewart and the New York Liberty look to close out the two-time defending champion Las Vegas Aces in Game 3 today.

The New York Liberty (2-0) are one win away from the franchises seventh appearance in the WNBA Finals. New York is one of three active franchises to not win a WNBA Championship, despite making the trip more than five active franchises. Last season New York fell short in the WNBA Finals. This season they are one win away from getting back to there while simultaneously ending the Las Vegas Aces (0-2) opportunity to three-peat as champions. New York controlled Game 1 from the opening tip led by Breanna Stewart’s 43 points, five rebounds and four assists. Stewart followed that performance up in Game 2 with a playoff career-high eight assists along with 15 points and seven assists to give New York the opportunity to close out the semifinals today.

Stewart has not done it alone as Sabrina Ionescu, Jonquel Jones, Courtney Vandersloot and the rest of the team have all starred in their roles. Ionescu especially has been great for New York averaging 22.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game on 54-40-75 shooting splits making big three-point shot after big three-point shot.

For Las Vegas this is only the (second) time since the big four came together that the team has lost consecutive games in the playoffs. The only other time came in 2021 where Las Vegas was eliminated in the semifinals by the Phoenix Mercury. Today could be the day the journey for a three-peat comes to an end for Las Vegas.

It will take a collective effort from the big four, led by three-time MVP A’ja Wilson, along with Chelsea Gray, Kelsey Plum and Jackie Young to avoid elimination and keep Las Vegas’ season alive today in Game 3.
