The New York Liberty are one game away from their first WNBA Championship heading into Game 4 against the Minnesota Lynx.
The 2024 WNBA Finals have featured two instant classics and one of the most evenly matched series in recent memory. After stealing Game 3 on a deep Sabrina Ionescu three, the New York Liberty (2-1) are one win away from the first championship in franchise history. In New York’s first five appearances in the WNBA Finals they have never led or played in a close out game including last season when Breanna Stewart led her hometown team to the championship series for the first time in 21 years. The Minnesota Lynx are not going to roll over and let New York win the franchise’s first championship. They came back from down 15 points in five minutes on the road in Game 1, dominated Game 2 and had several opportunities to win at home in Game 3.

Game 3 was another instant classic that started perfectly for Minnesota getting out to a 10 point lead at the end of the first period. Stewart kept New York in the game with her stellar play on both ends setting the stage for Ionescu to score six of her 13 points in the final period including the game winner.
Stewart finished with 30 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks, going 10-10 from the free-throw line after missing a potential game winning free-throw in Game 2. That was Stewart’s 10th game with at least 20 points in a finals game adding to her record while making the biggest plays on the defensive end down the stretch.
Minnesota also made history with Napheesa Collier breaking Diana Taurasi’s playoff record of points in one postseason. She finished the game with a team-high 22 points, adding to her now record total 249 total points in a single postseason passing Tarasi’s 2009 record of 245 total points. Collier now owns the record for total points in a postseason and is tied with Stewart and Angel McCoughtry for the most points (42) in a single game during this historic run for the MVP runner-up.
