Cameron Brink and the Los Angeles Sparks take on A’ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces today.

The Las Vegas Aces (1-0) collected their rings, raised another banner and picked up win number one in the 2024 season during the home opener. Now it is back to business for a team that started last season 7-0, finished the regular season with a record 34 wins and then blitzed through the playoffs with a 8-1 record. Since Becky Hammon took over as head coach Las Vegas has gone 60-16 in the regular season and 16-3 in the playoffs with back-to-back WNBA Championships. They start the journey to a third straight title with a home game against the young, rebuilding Los Angeles Sparks (0-1) led by rookies Cameron Brink and Rickea Jackson.

In their debuts, the rookies played well with Brink starting the game and finishing with 11 points, four assists, two rebounds and two blocks while Jackson came off the bench for seven points, including a clutch buzzer-beater showing her ability to score under duress. Los Angeles finished with a loss, but showed promise of a bright future.

For Las Vegas, it was tested a lot more than expected in the season-opener but rallied in the second half to close out with an 89-80 win over the Phoenix Mercury. Two-time MVP A’ja Wilson finished with 30 points, 13 rebounds, five assists and three blocks on 10-22 shooting (10-11 from the free-throw line) reminding the league she is arguably the best player in the world.

Jackie Young added 23 points, seven rebounds, six assists, three steals and two blocks going 9-10 from the free-throw line while playing elite defense. Kelsey Plum was the only other player in double-figures (19 points and five assists) while the team navigated the offense without its leader and Finals MVP Chelsea Gray.
