With the new team in Golden State making its WNBA regular-season debut on its home court, the Valkyries host the Los Angeles Sparks in their inaugural game on Friday night.
Golden State is joining the WNBA as its first expansion team since the 2008 season. The Valkyries are owned and operated by the same group that runs the Golden State Warriors and will play their home games in the Chase Center. The team is led by former Liberty staffer Ohemaa Nyanin as general manager and Natalie Nakase as head coach. Los Angeles, on the other hand, also underwent some offseason changes after finishing 8-32 last season. The Sparks hired Lynne Roberts as head coach to replace Curt Miller this season.

Most recently, these two teams met in preseason play last week where the Sparks earned an 83-82 victory over the Valkyries at the Chase Center. Rickea Jackson led the Sparks with a team-high 13 points while Kelsey Plum poured in 11 points in the win. Aari McDonald also added 12 points off the bench for LA.
As for Golden State, the Valkyries were led by 20 points off the bench from Laeticia Amihere. Amihere shot an outstanding 7-for-11 from the field with two makes beyond the three-point arc. Kayla Thornton and Monique Billings also added nine points each from the starting lineup.
