Richmond (27-5), the Atlantic 10 Conference regular-season champion at 17-1 and the No. 1 seed for the conference tournament, made it through to the semifinals with a Friday victory and will take on fourth-seeded Saint Joseph’s (22-8) on Saturday morning at Henrico Sports & Events Center in Henrico, Virginia. The Hawks finished 12-6 in A-10 play and received a double-bye to the quarterfinals. The Spiders, meanwhile, are looking for their second consecutive NCAA tournament bid. Saint Joseph’s last played in the NCAA tourney back in 2014.

Richmond gave up a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter, trailing briefly before regrouping to get past No. 9 seed Duquesne 63-58 on Friday for its 17th straight win. Alyssa Jimenez buried a 3-pointer with 3:07 left to give the Spiders the lead for good. Addie Budnik paced Richmond with 15 points while Maggie Doogan added 12. Doogan averages 16.7 points and 7.1 points while Rachel Ullstrom scores 15.4 points per game.

Mackenzie Smith tied the game from the foul line with 10 seconds left in regulation and the Hawks escaped with a 53-50 overtime victory over fifth-seeded Rhode Island on Friday. Talya Brugler went for 16 points in the win while Smith tossed in 15. Laura Ziegler averages 17.8 points and 10.7 rebounds while Smith chips in 14.4 points per game.

The Spiders improved to 16-9 in the all-time series with a sweep in the regular season, taking a 59-51 decision at home on Feb. 13 before claiming a 73-65 road win on March 1 in the regular-season finale. Aaron Roussell is 121-62 in his sixth season at Richmond while Cindy Griffin has a 420-318 mark in her 24th season leading Saint Joseph’s, which reached the quarterfinals of the Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournamenta last season.
