Ball State will square off against Toledo on Saturday afternoon as the teams battle for an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The stage is set for the women’s MAC Tournament final on Saturday where the No. 1 Ball State Cardinals will take on the second-seeded Toledo Rockets for an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Cardinals made it through to the title matchup after beating the fourth-seeded Kent State Golden Flashes on Friday morning in a 70-53 victory, improving their overall record to 26-7 and their win streak to six games. Ball State jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. At the end of the first half, the score was 34-26 and a 24-point third quarter nearly put the game away for the Cards. Lachelle Austin led the Ball State offense with a 21-point performance and Ally Becki added 15 points and also led on the boards with nine rebounds to narrowly miss a double-double.

The Rockets improved to 24-7 overall and picked up their second straight win on Friday afternoon to earn a spot in the championship game. At halftime, the team trailed Buffalo 20-13, but posted a 22-point third quarter to only trail by one going into the fourth quarter. The team outscored the Bulls 21-13 to earn a 56-49 victory and a spot in the title game. Sammi Mikonowicz and Nan Garcia each finished the game with 13 points to lead the Rockets’ offense and each earned double-doubles, pulling down 11 and 15 rebounds, respectively. While the team only shot 36 percent from the field and 21 percent from long range, it was just enough to get past the Bulls.

Toledo and Ball State met twice during conference play and split the results with the Cardinals winning the first game 77-63 before the Rockets avenged that loss with a 70-66 win in the rematch.
