The first semifinal of the day in the Big East Tournament sees top-seeded Connecticut (29-3) go for a fifth straight appearance in the championship game since returning to the conference. In the quarterfinals, the Huskies cruised to an eighth straight win over St. John’s led by Paige Bueckers. They take on fifth-seeded Villanova (18-13) for the third time this season. The Wildcats upset fourth-seeded Marquette in the quarterfinals, setting up this third attempt to take on the Huskies at the most important time of the season. Bueckers led the Huskies to two dominant wins by a combined margin of 74 points.

In the first two games against the Wildcats this season Bueckers averaged 18.0 points, 9.0 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game on 15-22 shooting from the field. She helped the Huskies surgically take apart the Wildcats playing just 25 and 26 minutes in each game.

This season the Wildcats scored less than 60 points in just nine games, two against the Huskies. They gave 80 or more points just twice this season, both against the Huskies. The Wildcats only lost two games this season by more than 17 points, again, both to the Huskies.

Freshman Jasmine Bascoe was one silver lining this season against the Huskies averaging 13.5 points, 3.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game on 5-11 shooting from three. She will need a career-level performance to pull off the upset here in the Big East Tournament semifinals.
