No. 3 seed Idaho looks for a 3rd win this season over sixth-seeded Montana at the Big Sky tournament on Monday

Idaho (18-11) claimed the third seed for the Big Sky Conference tournament with a 10-8 record, winning a tiebreaker with Weber State. On Monday afternoon, the Vandals open play at Idaho Central Arena in Boise against No. 6 seed Montana (12-17), which finished 8-10 in Big Sky action and lost a tiebreaker with Idaho State in the seedings. Idaho last played in the NCAA tournament in 2016, with its last postseason bid coming in the 2019 WNIT. The Lady Griz haven’t gone to the NCAA tourney since 2015.

The Vandals dropped their regular-season finale to conference champion Montana State, losing 67-54 at home on March 3. Olivia Nelson scored 14 points before fouling out while Anja Bukvic added 13. Nelson leads the team with 14.3 points per game, Hope Hassmann gets 12.1 points per game and Jennifer Aadland averages 9.7 points and 9.6 rebounds.

Montana also lost its final game of the regular season, losing the lead with 1:44 left in an 80-77 defeat at Eastern Washington on March 3. Mack Konig finished with 16 points and 11 assists while Tyler McCliment-Call scored 13 points. Konig averages 10.6 points and 5.2 assists and is the team’s lone double-digit scorer. Dani Bartsch posts 7.9 points and a team-high 6.6 boards per game.

The Lady Griz are 48-18 in the all-time series, though Idaho swept this year’s two meetings with a 63-50 road win on Jan. 4 and a 70-57 victory at home on Jan. 20. Arthur Moreira, the first Brazilian to coach an NCAA Division I program, moved up from associate head coach in June and is in his first season leading the Vandals. Nate Harris went 7-7 after taking over the interim coaching reins at Montana after Brian Holsinger was placed on leave and eventually resigned.
