What’s old is new again as former Pac-12 staples USC (29-2) and UCLA (29-2) face-off in the Big Ten Tournament Championship Game. The top-seeded Trojans are the only team to defeat the Bruins this season who are the second-seed in the Big Ten Tournament. This matchup was seemingly inevitable after the seasons these teams have had in their first year in the conference. JuJu Watkins is having a Player of the Year season as one of the most uniquely productive superstar players in the country. On the other side for the Bruins, they are led by another Player of the Year candidate in Lauren Betts who is one of the best interior forces in all of women’s college basketball.

In her two games against the Bruins this season Watkins has been uniquely dominant. She is averaging 34.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 7.0 steals/blocks per game. Watkins scored in every possible way going 12-28 from inside the arc, 10-20 from deep and 14-19 from the free-throw line.

The Bruins were never able to get their signature defense locked in to stop Watkins and the Trojans in those two losses. Betts had two of her worst games of the season in those losses despite registering double-doubles in both.

She is averaging 14.5 points and 12.0 rebounds per game with just three total blocks against the Trojans. Betts had her two of her four worst shooting games combining to shoot just 10-24 overall from the field.
