The second round of the Big Ten Tournament in women’s college basketball features the Illinois Illini and the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

In the first round of the women’s college basketball Big Ten Tournament Nebraska (20-10) rolled to an easy win. That sets up this second round showdown with seventh-seeded Illinois (21-8). The Cornhuskers splashed home 13 three-pointers in the win with five different players hitting at least two deep balls. Alexis Markowski paced the team on both ends with 19 points and 10 rebounds on 7-10 shooting. That offensive style has defined the Cornhuskers all season. The winner of this game advances in the Big Ten Tournament to play second-seeded UCLA who has been one of the best teams in the country all season.

This season Markowski has 12 double-doubles leading the Cornhuskers to an 8-4 record in those games. They are also 4-0 in games where she shoots 70% from the field. Markowski is looking for her first Big Ten Tournament win of her career after losing in overtime in the championship game last season to Caitlin Clark and Iowa.

The Illini won the only game this season between the teams. Adalia McKenzie led four players in double-figures with 23 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and four steals. Berry Wallace was huge off the bench with 15 points on 6-9 shooting in the win.

Markowski was the only person to have it going in the loss for the Cornhuskers. She finished with 28 points and eight rebounds, but on 9-20 shooting from the field. The Cornhuskers are just 9-7 when Markowski shoots under 50% and 5-4 when she goes for 20 or more points this season.
