North Carolina got off to a strong start at Texas on Thursday night, leading by five after the first quarter, but the Longhorns turned up the defensive intensity from there, holding the Tar Heels to 36.1% shooting the rest of the way after a 10-of-13 first quarter en route to a 79-64 ACC/SEC Challenge win. Senior Indya Nivar paced Carolina with 17 points, with UCLA transfer Elina Aarnisalo adding 16 and redshirt sophomore Ciera Toomey finishing with 10 points and eight rebounds.

The Terriers combined 40.5% shooting with 21 turnovers on Monday, resulting in a 54-45 loss at Maine. The Black Bears led by four at halftime before putting the game away with a big third quarter, with Boston University never getting closer than six down the stretch. Sophomore Hildur Gunnsteinsdóttir scored 11 points to lead the Terriers while sophomore Allison Schwertner finished with 10 points and six rebounds.

Sunday’s matchup marks the first meeting between BU and North Carolina. The Tar Heels finished 29-8 last season, losing to Duke in the Sweet Sixteen, while Boston University was 12-19 and made its lone NCAA tournament appearance in 2003.
