Detroit Mercy’s sluggish start on Wednesday night doomed it to a 79-49 thumping at Northern Kentucky. The Titans shot just 3-of-18 in the opening period and trailed by 23 at its end. Kailey Starks came off the bench for 11 points and was the lone player in double figures. Aaliyah McQueen averages 15.7 points and 7.4 rebounds and Emaia O’Brien nets 14.5 points per game.

Oakland took a 73-56 loss at Youngstown State on Sunday. Kylie Buckley scored 15 points while Macy Smith and Dani Grim each had 12 and Madison Royal-Davis finished with eight steals. Maddy Skorupski leads the team at 16.6 points per game, Smith gets 12.3 points a night and Royal-Davis averages 4.3 points and 5.5 rebounds.

The Golden Grizzlies lead the all-time series 20-11. Kate Achter is 34-49 in her third season with the Titans while Oakland is 4-7 since interim coach Deanna Richard stepped in after Jeff Tungate resigned due to health concerns on Dec. 9. Richard also served as interim coach last season when Tungate was out after spinal surgery.
