No. 11 Duke (2-0) returns almost everyone from a Sweet Sixteen team last spring and on Sunday the Blue Devils close out a two-game road swing with a visit to No. 18 Maryland (2-0) at the Xfinity Center in College Park, Maryland. Coach Kara Lawson enters he fifth season at Duke, where she is 70-33 with back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances. Brenda Frese has led the Terrapins to 13 consecutive tourney bids, with last season’s trip ending with a first-round loss. Now in her 23rd season, Frese is 584-161 with three Final Four visits and a national championship back in 2006.

The Blue Devils arrive in College Park on the heels of an 83-67 win at Liberty on Thursday night. Ashlon Jackson went for 22 points and six assists while Reigan Richardson and Toby Fournier scored 14 points each. They led just 39-37 at halftime before pulling away after the break, holding the Flames to just 9-of-23 shooting in the second half.
Maryland also played on Thursday, breaking away from visiting Coppin State with an 25-4 second-quarter burst en route to a 70-47 victory. Rutgers transfer Kaylene Smikle scored 20 points and Sara Te-Biasu, a new arrival from VCU, added 12. Saylor Poffenbarger dragged down 10 rebounds in 22 minutes off the bench.
Duke leads the all-time series 41-39, with the Terps winning the last matchup 65-55 in a Sweet Sixteen matchup in Spokane, Washington, during the 2015 NCAA tournament. Jackson is averaging 13.5 points for the Blue Devils while Richardson nets 12.0 points a night. Three players average 6.0 rebounds. Smikle gets 13.5 points per game for Maryland and Te-Biasu averages 10.0. Poffenbarger leads the team with 8.5 rebounds per contest.
