A top 20 matchup will take place on Thursday night as Duke and North Carolina go head-to-head in women’s ACC basketball action.

The No. 19 North Carolina Tar Heels will host the No. 14 Duke Blue Devils on Thursday night at Carmichael Arena in an ACC action. The Tar Heels come into Thursday night’s game with an overall record of 13-3 and a conference record of 1-2 so far, putting them in a four-way tie for fourth place in the highly competitive ACC. On Sunday, the team took on No. 3 Notre Dame, falling in a 76-66 defeat. Maria Gakdeng led the Tar Heels in scoring with 16 points and was joined by Lexi Donarski and Alyssa Ustby who scored 13 and 12 points, respectively. Ustby pulled down 11 rebounds to lead the team on the boards and earn a double-double, but it wasn’t enough to hold off a strong Fighting Irish offense.

The Blue Devils are one of the five teams in the top spot in the ACC standings at 3-0 in conference play and 12-3 overall. The team has now won two games straight including a big 69-31 win over Pitt its last time out. Against the Panthers, all but two players put points on the board with Reigan Richardson leading the scoring efforts with 13 points. Delaney Thomas added 10 points as the only other Blue Devil in double figures, but with strong defense shutting down the Pitt offense, it was plenty to pick up the win at home.

Duke and North Carolina have a long-standing rivalry and have met a total of 108 times in their storied history. UNC holds a narrow 55-53 edge in the all-time series and won the last meeting with Duke in a 63-59 victory in last year’s regular season finale.
