UNLV hosts East Carolina in the second game of the UNLV Thanksgiving Classic on Friday night

East Carolina goes for its first win of the season on the road when the Pirates travel to take on UNLV. This is the second game for East Carolina and UNLV in part of the UNLV Thanksgiving Classic. The Lady Rebels are 5-2 overall and have been really strong at home this season with a 5-1 record in Vegas. UNLV is coming off a big win at home in its first game of this Thanksgiving Classic when it beat UCF on Thanksgiving Eve by a 71-52 final. It was a huge bounceback after losing to No. 9 Oklahoma in the previous game by 30 points.

The win was even more impressive considering that it was the Golden Knights first loss of the season. UNLV looked like a different team and a lot of that had to do with McKinna Brackens. The forward put up her second career double-double and earned a career high in points and rebounds with 19 and 14 respectively. The Lady Rebels shot especially well at 50 percent from the field and even more impressively 46.7 percent from behind the arc. If UNLV is able to shoot again at that high of a rate, they should be able to defend home court and their tournament with relative ease against East Carolina.

Away from home is where it has gotten tricky this season for ECU. East Carolina is 3-0 at home but 0-2 on the road with another loss on a neutral site. That neutral site loss was the Pirates last game when they lost to Montana State 62-56 in the first game of the UNLV Classic.

East Carolina started off slow letting the Bobcats start on a 9-0 run but the Pirates responding quickly with a 12-0 run of their own. Jayla Hearp led ECU with 13 points while Amiya Joyner also scored in double figures. If the Pirates get off to a quicker start tonight, they might just have a shot at pulling off this upset on the road.
