Harvard, Penn come off Saturday wins as they square off at Philadelphia’s Palestra on Monday afternoon

Harvard (13-2) bounced back from a tough road loss with a win on Saturday and now heads back out on the road for an Ivy League encounter with Penn (10-6) at The Palestra in Philadelphia on Monday afternoon. The Quakers dropped their first two Ivy games at home before a road win on Saturday upped their league mark to 1-2 while the Crimson is 2-1 in the early stage of league play. Harvard hasn’t been to the NCAA tournament since 2007 while Penn’s last appearance came in 2017.

The Quakers opened the game on a 7-0 blitz and never trailed en route to a 57-51 win at Cornell on Saturday afternoon. Stina Almqvist finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds, Mataya Gayle also scored 17 points and Katie Collins went for 10 points and 10 boards. Almqvist leads the team at 18.4 points per game, Gayle nets 12.1 points a night and Collins averages 8.6 points and 8.3 rebounds.

The Crimson blasted visiting Brown 83-53 on Saturday afternoon behind 33 points from Harmoni Turner. Katie Krupa came off the bench for 13 points in the rout. Turner averages 21.1 points and 5.1 rebounds while Elena Rodriguez scores 11.7 points per game.

Harvard leads the all-time series between the rivals 66-38 and the teams split homecourt victories last season, with the Crimson taking a 69-56 win on Jan. 20, 2024, and Penn grabbing a 69-67 triumph on March 2. Carrie Moore is 49-26 in her third season at Harvard while Mike McLaughlin has a 253-168 record in his 15th year leading the Quakers.
