Monmouth rolls into CAA play with 5 straight wins as it hosts Hofstra at OceanFirst Bank Center on Friday night

Monmouth (5-6) has turned its season around, winning five straight games after an 0-6 start and enters Coastal Athletic Association play on Friday night when it hosts Hofstra (5-6) at OceanFirst Bank Center in West Long Branch, New Jersey. The Pride have won their last two outings but haven’t played in a postseason tournament since the 1980 AIAW tourney, before the NCAA sponsored women’s basketball. They were 11-21 last season. The Hawks played in the 2023 NCAA tournament and reached the second round of the WNIT last spring, closing out a 22-10 campaign.

Monmouth last played on Dec. 21, beating visiting American University 64-51. Taisha Exanor went for 13 points with five steams and Ella Farrelly finished with 11 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots. Damaris Rodriguez leads the club at 12.7 points per game while Exanor averages 12.5 points and 8.6 rebounds.

Hofstra comes off a 59-43 win over visiting Iona on Sunday. LaNae’ Corbett went off for 24 points and Chloe Sterling added 11 in the victory. Sterling gets 15.4 points per game, Emma Von Essen scores 12.4 points a night and Zyheima Swint averages 6.3 points and 7.3 boards.

The Hawks are 10-5 in the all-time series and won last season’s lone meeting 66-50 on the road on March 3. Coach Cait Wetmore is in her first season coaching at Monmouth after four seasons as associate head coach at Charlotte. Danielle Santos Atkinson is 47-106 in her sixth year at Hofstra.
