In the second game of the first round of the Lexington Regional in the 2025 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship, fifth seed Kansas State takes on 12th seed Fairfield.
In the second game at Memorial Coliseum in Lexington on Friday, fifth seed Kansas State (26-7, 13-5 Big 12) takes on 12th seed Fairfield (28-4, 19-1 MAAC) in the first round of the 2025 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament. The winner of this game will advance to the Round of 32 on Sunday to face the winner of a game earlier on Friday between the fourth seeded host team Kentucky and 13th seeded Liberty.

Kansas State is trying to rebound after stumbling down the stretch, losing three of its last four games in the regular season. In the Big 12 tournament the Wildcats picked up one win beating UCF 80-65, but then lost to a ranked West Virginia team 73-69 in the second round.
Meanwhile, Fairfield came close to running the table in conference play. The Stags won their first 19 conference games, and just missed a perfect season in MAAC play losing on the road at Quinnipiac 72-65 in the regular season finale. They responded well though winning the MAAC Tournament in three games, which included a rematch against Quinnipiac in the conference championship which the Stags won 76-53.
In non-conference play, Fairfield had just three losses. Two of those losses came in their first three games, with the team having no losses between Dec. 21 and March 6.
