Quinnipiac and Fairfield face off for an NCAA tournament bid as the top two teams in the MAAC collide on Saturday

Fairfield (27-4) finished 19-1 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play this season and on Saturday, it gets to avenge that lone loss. The Stags face No. 2 seed Quinnipiac (28-3) in the conference tournament championship game at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The Bobcats finished 18-2 in conference play and have won 12 straight games, including a 72-65 victory over Fairfield to close out the regular season. The Stags are looking for a return trip to the NCAA tourmament while Quinnipiac last appeared in the NCAA tourney in 2019.

Fairfield watched a 12-point fourth-quarter lead vanish but survived with a 49-48 win over No. 4 seed Mount St. Mary’s in a Friday afternoon semifinal. Kaety L’Amoreaux’s three-point play with 13 seconds left was the difference maker. Raiana Brown scored 13 points in the win. Meghan Andersen leads the team at 14.7 points per game, with L’Amoreaux averaging 12.4 points and 4.7 rebounds.

The Bobcats needed no such drama in their 65-51 semifinal win over sixth-seeded Merrimack on Friday. Gal Raviv led the attack with 23 points while Ella O’Donnell added 13. Raviv averages 18.3 points and 5.5 boards, with Anna Foley and Jackie Grisdale each posting 10.9 points per game.

Quinnipiac is 18-13 in the series after the teams split two meetings this season. The Stags picked up a 72-63 win at home on Jan. 30 before losing the regular-season closer on the road. Carly Thibeault-Dudonis is 73-21 in her third season at Fairfield while Tricia Fabbri has a 544-353 mark in her 30th season coaching the Bobcats.
