Cotie McMahon and Ohio State look to bounce back after their first loss of the season against the Maryland Terrapins.

After starting the season undefeated 12th ranked Ohio State (17-1) took its eye off the ball one game before what would have been a top 10 showdown with eighth-ranked Maryland (16-2). Both the Buckeyes and the Terrapins are coming off of losses and trying to keep pace with the top teams in the Big Ten this season in women’s college basketball. The Buckeyes were upset by an unranked Penn State team where they scored a season-low 59 points. The Terrapins have lost two of their last four games after a 14 game winning streak to start the season. Both losses came against top-seven ranked teams as conference play ratchets up the competition in women’s college basketball.

Those two losses for the Terrapins have been a tale of two teams. In the loss to fourth-ranked USC the Terrapins entered the fourth period tied and in a position to pull off the upset. Then, in the loss to seventh-ranked Texas they never found a rhythm falling behind by 30 points at the half.

The Terrapins are coming off by far their worst game of the season scoring a season-low 51 points, getting trounced by 38 points and missing all seven of their three-point attempts. Kaylenne Smikle and Shyanne Sellers will try to get their team back on track and in the win column against a tough Buckeyes team.

For the Buckeyes in their loss it was the first time this season they didn’t get to the free-throw line at least 10 times. In the teams first 17 games the Buckeyes were one of the best teams in the country getting to the line averaging 20.1 free-throw attempts per game.
