Michigan had to work its way to this spot in the conference tournament. Because of its finish, just one place behind Maryland, it entered the tournament in the second round of the ladder instead of this being its first game. However, they did take care of business, beating No. 12-seeded Washington, who had beaten Minnesota the day before.

In the 66-58 win, Olivia Olson led Michigan in scoring with 21 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field with a team-high six rebounds as well. Mila Holloway led the team with eight assists to go along with her four rebounds and three points. Three of the starters ended in double figures in the win.

Maryland did not have to work its way to the quarterfinals, automatically garnering a spot based on its finishing in conference play. Kaylene Smikle leads the team this season, averaging 17.9 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. The winner of this game heads to the semifinals for a matchup with the winner of No. 1-seeded USC and No. 9-seeded Indiana.
