UNLV, coming off its 4th straight Mountain West title, takes on Boise State in a conference tourney quarterfinal

UNLV (24-6) won its fourth consecutive Mountain West Conference title, finishing 16-2 in league play, and opens play on Monday afternoon at the Mountain West tournament when it takes on eighth-seeded Boise State (18-14) in a quarterfinal matchup at the Thomas & Mack Center in suburban Las Vegas. The Lady Rebels dropped their regular-season finale while the Broncos won their first-round game on Sunday. UNLV has played in the last three NCAA tournaments while Boise State’s last trip to the NCAA tourney was in 2019.

The Broncos trailed entering the fourth quarter but took the lead for good on Tatum Thompson’s jumper with 1:23 left en route to a 54-48 victory over No. 9 seed Nevada on Sunday. Thompson finished with 14 points and three blocked shots and was the lone double-figure scorer in the win. Thompson averages 13.3 points and 6.8 rebounds, with Natalie Pasco scoring 12.7 points per game.

The Lady Rebels dropped a 71-66 decision at Wyoming on Wednesday night to close out the regular season despite 24 points from Amarachi Kimpson. Aaliyah Alexander added 12 points and Alyssa Brown snared 10 boards. Kimpson nets 13.9 points per game, Kiara Jackson averages 12.6 points and 5.0 assists and Brown puts up 7.4 points and 7.8 rebounds a night.

UNLV has won nine straight games against Boise State, taking a 19-12 lead in the all-time series. This season, the Lady Rebels picked up a 61-57 road win on Jan. 4 and an 83-53 blowout at home on Feb. 26. Lindy La Rocque is 126-28 in her fifth season at UNLV while Gordy Presnell has a 274-181 mark in his 20th season leading the Broncos. The winner faces either No. 5 seed New Mexico or fourth-seeded San Diego State in a Tuesday semifinal.
