The Murray State Racers take on Belmont for the first time ever in the MVC Tournament Championship.

History will be made in the women’s college basketball MVC Tournament with either Murray State (24-7) or Belmont (22-11) winning its first conference championship. The Racers entered the tournament tied for the best record in conference play and muscled their way to the championship game behind an elite offense. They dominated Bradley (86-50) and then held off Drake (96-90) after building a 17 point lead in the final period. Offense has been the identity of the Racers all season as the top scoring team in the country. This season the Racers are averaging 87.6 points per game. The Bruins will test the Racers in the MVC Tournament Championship Game after splitting the two regular season games.

In the first game between the teams the Bruins won in a high-scoring shootout. They outscored the Racers 96-89 led by three 20-plus point scorers in Tuti Jones (29 points), Kendal Cheesman (24 points) and Kendall Holmes (21 points).

Those three combined to shoot 14-23 from three getting hot in one of the most exciting games of the regular season. That loss for the Racers was the only time this season scoring 89 or more points (14 games) and only the second time in 23 games when scoring 80 points.

The Racers evened the season series with an 83-78 win two weeks later. Haven Ford led four scorers in double figures in the win with 24 points, seven assists and six rebounds.
