No. 2 seed NC State looks for a second straight Sweet Sixteen trip when it hosts No. 7 seed Michigan State in women’s college basketball.

NC State (27-6) earned a No. 2 seed for the women’s basketball NCAA tournament after sharing the ACC title with Notre Dame and reaching the championship game of the ACC tournament. On Monday, the Wolfpack will try to book a ticket to their second straight Sweet Sixteen appearance when they take on No. 7 seed Michigan State (22-9). The Spartans tied for fifth in the Big Ten before falling in its first game at the conference tournament. Michigan State hasn’t advanced to the Sweet Sixteen since 2009.

NC State pulled away from stubborn Vermont in its 75-55 first round victory on Saturday afternoon. Zoe Brooks scored 19 points, while Saniya Rivers and Aziaha James each tossed in 15. Rivers and Madison Hayes grabbed 12 rebounds apiece. James is the team’s top scorer at 17.8 points per game, with Brooks getting 14.4 points a night and Hayes averaging 10.8 points and 7.2 boards.

The Spartans kept No. 10 seed Harvard at bay Saturday evening, claiming a 64-50 first round win. Grace Vanslooten finished with 17 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots, while Jocelyn Tate added 13 points and four steals. Vanslooten scores 15.5 points per game and Julie Ayrault averages 14.6 points and 7.4 boards.

Michigan State is 2-1 against the Wolfpack, who won the last encounter in Nov. 2018. Saturday’s win was the 300th of Wes Moore’s career at NC State. Robyn Fralick has a 44-18 mark in her second season with the Spartans.
