A New York battle will take place on Tuesday evening as St. Bonaventure hosts Niagara in women’s non-conference basketball action.

The St. Bonaventure Bonnies will welcome the Niagara Purple Eagles to the Reilly Center on Tuesday evening for a 6:30 p.m. tip-off as the teams meet in non-conference women’s basketball action. The Purple Eagles are off to a rough start this year and currently sit at 1-6 ahead of their penultimate non-conference game before Metro Atlantic Athletic play begins on Thursday.

The team’s last time on the court was nearly two weeks ago against Kent State at home and the game resulted in a tough 89-73 loss. Marlie Dickerson paced the offense with a 22-point performance and was joined in double figures by Safiatu Kolliegbo, who finished the game with 17 points. Jade Rutledge led on the boards with eight rebounds and added six points to the scoreboard. Despite some strong play, the Purple Eagles had a hard time holding off the duo of Mya Babbitt and Jenna Batch, who combined for 55 points for the Golden Flashes.

The Bonnies will look to move closer to that .500 mark with a home win on Tuesday night as the team currently sits at 3-6 on the season with only two games remaining before Atlantic 10 play begins after Christmas. On Saturday, the team traveled to take on Albany, losing in a 64-48 defeat.

The team struggled with shooting in the loss, finishing at 41 percent from the field and just 18 percent from three-point range. At the line, the Bonnies only went 3-for-9. Caitlin Frost led the scoring efforts with 16 points, while Isabellah Middleton joined her in double figures with 11 points on the day. Hannah Richardson led on the boards with five rebounds.

St. Bonaventure and Niagara have met 25 times in their teams’ histories and the Bonnies hold a 20-5 lead in the series. Niagara earned a win in their last meeting, however, winning handily in a 75-51 victory at home last season. Tune in Tuesday night to see if the Purple Eagles can make it two wins in a row against the Bonnies.
