The No. 3-seeded Tar Heels are 28-7 heading into the second round. They finished the regular season with a 13-5 record against Atlantic Coast Conference teams. They won two games in the ACC Tournament before bowing out in the semifinals with a loss to No. 7-ranked NC State.

Heading into the NCAA Tournament, they matched up with No. 14-seeded Oregon State in the first round, walking away with a 70-49 win on Saturday. Lexi Donarski led the team with 19 points, while Alyssa Ustby had 10 points, nine rebounds, and four assists. Maria Gakdeng had 13 points and five rebounds on 5-of-8 shooting.

The No. 6-seeded Mountaineers are 25-7 overall heading into this game. They also finished 13-5 in the Big 12 Conference and also won a game in the Big 12 Tournament against Kansas State. They lost in the semifinals to No. 8-ranked TCU, who is a No. 2 seed in this tournament. They opened up the NCAA Tournament with a game against No. 11-seed Columbia.

West Virginia came away with a 78-59 win in the team’s first game in the first round. JJ Quinerly led the team with 27 points on 9-of-19 shooting and a team-high seven assists. Jordan Thomas had 12 points on the bench in 23 minutes with a team-high nine rebounds. Jordan Harrison was the only other starter, outside of Quinerly, who had double-digits scoring with 23 points and six assists.
