Montana State battles Northern Colorado on Sunday afternoon in the second round of the women’s Big Sky Tournament

The Montana State Bobcats battle the Northern Colorado Bears on Sunday afternoon in the second round of the women’s Big Sky Basketball Tournament. The Bobcats finished in regular season in first place in the Big Sky with a 17-1 record in conference play. They were on the verge of going undefeated in the conference, but lost to Sacramento State in the second-to-last regular season game. They bounced back on Monday to beat Idaho by 13 and it pushed their overall record to 27-3. Two of those wins came against the Bears as they beat them by 11 and 21 earlier this season. It has been an impressive season for the Bobcats, but they want to win the conference tournament to leave no doubt about them making the NCAA Tournament. Esmeralda Morales was the team’s top scorer this season at 15.2 points per game, while Marah Dykstra also averaged in double figures at 13.0 points per game. Dykstra was also the team’s top rebounder at 4.7 per game.

The Bears will have to find a way to slow the two down if they want to have any shot at picking up the huge upset over the Bobcats.

The Bears earned another shot at the Bobcats by beating Portland State 53-50 on Saturday. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Bears.

It wasn’t easy, though, as they trailed the Vikings by one heading into the fourth quarter. They jumped on the Vikings early in the fourth and then held on to get the first-round win.

Aniah Hall scored 12 points in the win and is now averaging 9.6 points per game. The Bears have been led by London Gamble who is scoring a team-high 10.4 points per game. She is the only player averaging in double figures this season.
