Lucy Olsen and the Iowa Hawkeyes host Northwestern in women’s college basketball action.

The start to Big Ten Conference play for Iowa (13-7) got off to a rocky start emphasized by a five game losing streak. The Hawkeyes snapped that five game losing streak in their last outing and look to build on that momentum against a Northwestern (7-11) team that is winless in conference. Lucy Olsen led the way for the Hawkeyes with 20 points and six assists on a rare perfect night from the field. Olsen went 8-8 from the field, including 4-4 from three, against Washington in an 85-61 win. That was the first and only time in Olsen’s 123 game career where she didn’t miss a shot from the field.

This is the first and only game of the season between the Hawkeyes and the Wildcats. The Hawkeyes have won four straight games against the Wildcats and have not lost to them since the 2021-2023 season.

Since the start of conference play the Hawkeyes’ powerful offense has slowed down from 59th in the country to the middle of the pack in the Big Ten. They got back on track against the Huskies in their last game putting up 85 points. This season the Hawkeyes are 7-0 when they score 80 or more points in regulation.

When they score less than 80 points the Hawkeyes 6-7 in 13 games. Six of those games have come in conference where the Hawkeyes have struggled. Building momentum against this winless Wildcats team could be a boost for the Hawkeyes in conference.
