The first day of the 2025 NCAA Women’s Basketball tournament continues in South Bend on Friday afternoon in the second of two games on the day at at Purcell Pavilion. This time the team hosting the regional is in action, as third seed Notre Dame (26-5, 16-2) takes on 14 seed Stephen F. Austin (29-5, 16-4). Notre Dame was 14-1 at home this season, with the lone loss coming in late February to then-No. 24 Florida State.

Notre Dame was a force throughout most of the season, with a 19-game winning streak running through mid-February. In the ACC tournament last week the Fighting Irish won their first round game, beating Cal 73-64, before losing to Duke 61-56 in the second round.
Meanwhile, Stephen F. Austin is still riding a significant winning streak, with 15 consecutive wins dating back to late January. The Ladyjacks were the third seed in their conference tournament and won all three games, putting a cap on things with a 65-57 win over top seed Southeastern Louisiana in the conference championship game last Thursday.
