The top-seeded Southeastern Louisiana Lions will take on the third-seeded Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks on Thursday in the Southland Championship game as the teams hope to continue postseason play with an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. The Lumberjacks bring an impressive 14-game lead into the championship game with the most recent being a 61-53 upset over second-seeded Lamar on Wednesday. Trinity Moore led the Jacks’ offense with an 18-point performance while Avery Vansickle and Ashlyn Traylor-Walker also finished the game in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Moore and Traylor-Walker each finished the game with seven rebounds to lead on the boards, as well. The team finished the semifinal game shooting 51 percent from the field and 50 percent from long range.

The Lions dropped their final game of the regular season to Texas A&M – Corpus Christi by two points, but the team bounced back to beat UIW handily on Wednesday in a 57-37 win to advance to the tournament final. Lexi Alexander and Jalencia Pierre each scored 12 points to lead the Lions’ offense. Alexander also led the team on the boards with 10 rebounds to earn a double-double in the win. Southeastern didn’t shoot its best, finishing the game at 41 percent from the field and 27 percent from long range, but it was enough to earn a championship berth.

Southeastern and Stephen F. Austin last met in early January and the game went in the Lions’ favor with an 87-81 victory. Tune in Thursday to see if the Lumberjacks are able to get redemption and pull off the upset to earn a Southeastern Tournament title.
