The Duke Blue Devils host the Stanford Cardinal for the first time in women’s college basketball as ACC rivals.

The first season in the ACC has been a real challenge for Stanford (10-7) after decades in the Pac-12. The Cardinal have lost four of their first six games in conference and head into the toughest stretch of the season playing four out of the next five games against ranked opponents. That starts with 16th ranked Duke (14-4) who have won two straight games. The Blue Devils have really ratcheted up the defensive effort in conference, allowing just 49.2 points per game to opponents, slowing down the pace and locking teams down. That defensive effort was on full display in a 72-38 win over 18th ranked California shutting down one of the best offensive teams in the country.

In that win the Blue Devils allowed 11 points or less in each of the four periods. They forced 30 turnovers for the second time this season and for the first time since the season-opener against Radford.

On the offensive end the Blue Devils have leaned on freshman Toby Fournier off the bench. She is leading the team in scoring at 12.6 points per game in just 17.9 minutes per game. Fournier has found a rhythm with veterans Ashlon Jackson (11.9 points per game) and Reigan Richardson (11.8 points per game) in her first season in women’s college basketball.

The Cardinal counter with a high-powered offense led by sophomore Nunu Agara. She has stepped into the starting lineup to lead the team with 17.6 points and 8.1 rebounds per game.
